Percussionist

A classically trained percussionist and a creator by instinct, Louis Thomson brings the performer and the composer into dialogue, sometimes even reversing their roles.

For Louis Thomson, percussion is as much an instrument as a field of exploration.

Between acoustic and electronic

Trained as a classical percussionist, he now develops a practice blending performance, improvisation and composition, where acoustic instruments meet electronics and new sound objects.

Blurring the boundaries

His work is driven by experimentation: transforming familiar sounds, imagining new setups, and creating situations where the roles of performer and composer meet, and sometimes merge.

Building a practice

After a Bachelor's in classical percussion at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, Louis is currently pursuing a Master's at the Hochschule Luzern – Musik, where he deepens his work around composition and improvisation.
